v0.20.0
Prerelease
Faster engine on x86_64
- On x86_64, Omaweb now depends on omaweb-qtwebengine 6.11.3-2, so
pacman -Syupulls that engine in with this release. It is the first x86_64 engine linked at ThinLTO's--lto-O2, the level Chrome's official build uses. Measured with the same Omaweb build against both engines, Speedometer 3.1 goes from 0.730 to 0.819 of Chromium 140, and MotionMark gains 13.6%. aarch64 stays on 6.11.3-1. - A window that opens on a page no longer fades out the Start page it shows while that page loads. The fade now waits for the window's first frame, which takes about 51 ms off startup on CI's runner.
Files open through your desktop's file chooser
- Every file and folder dialog now asks
org.freedesktop.portal.FileChooser, so you get the chooser you set for your desktop instead of GTK's own. On Omarchy,QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=gtk3used to bypass the portal. Qt's dialog opens only when the portal call fails. - This covers page uploads (single, multiple, folder, and a page's accepted types as filters), Save as, the download target, the download directory and saving the Sync recovery key from Settings.
- The dialog opens over the window that asked. Cancelling it cancels the page's request, and a page that goes away closes its dialog.
- A save opens in the downloads location under the name it was offered, including the name a page suggests. Only the part after the last slash is kept, and names such as
a#b.txtor100%41.txtare kept as spelled.
Settings
- A touchpad swipe in Settings now glides on after you lift your fingers, with the same curve and stopping rules as a page. Every scrolling list in the chrome gets it: the sidebar's tab list, History, Agent activity, the Omnibar's results, the theme menu and the Shortcut sheet.
- The section list takes Up, Down, Home and End, and each shows its section from the top. Tab moves into the section and Shift+Tab comes back. The focused section name draws a focus box.
- About now reads whether Omaweb is the default browser each time Settings opens, without holding the interface. It shows nothing until the desktop answers.
Sidebar and address row
- Hovering a Space button in the sidebar footer now grows its mark from 8 to 10 px and brings it to full opacity, without the filled, bordered box. The box still shows for keyboard focus.
- The keep-active dot on a Pinned tab's corner is gone. Keep active itself, its menu entry and the
Pkey are unchanged. - The extension mark in the address row now rests in Site information's colour and size. It brightens on hover and while an extension's popup is open.
- The search button in the top row is gone.
Primary+Kand:still open command scope.
Glance
- The Glance's buttons now sit on a plate of the panel's colour with a border, so they stay readable over both white and black pages.
- The key label for keeping a Glance as a tab now shows the whole chord, Ctrl, Shift and Enter. It used to show only Shift and Return. The keypad's Enter works too, and the Shortcut sheet lists the key whether or not a Glance is open.
- A label too wide to fit beside its button stands on the panel's side instead of running past the window's edge.
- Opening and closing a Glance no longer logs a binding loop from its controls' cursor.
Downloads
- A running download now draws a progress bar in the Downloads section and on the sidebar's Download mark. When the size is unknown, a segment slides along the bar, and it holds still under reduced motion.
- A download that was not interrupted no longer shows "Unknown reason or not interrupted". Rows saved with that text load without it.
Website
- On a wide screen that allows motion, the landing page is now a drive down the road. Scrolling is the throttle, and each card rises from the sun and plays its own clip from the film. Ignite, Radio,
Mor Return on the empty Omnibar starts cruise control, which drives through the stops to the music. - The road's CRT glass now uses about 45 ms of main thread a second, down from about 300 ms, and Ignite's pulse and the small panels no longer repaint every frame.
- The Spaces card now says what Spaces keep apart: work logins never meet personal tabs, all in one window.
Fixes
- On Omarchy, About no longer offers to make Omaweb the default when it already is. Omaweb now asks
omarchy-cmd-default-browserwhich browser Omarchy's router opens, and makes itself the default the wayomarchy-default-browserdoes. On other desktopsxdg-settingsstill decides. - A Pinned tab popped out into a Tab window now shows its window mark in the bottom-right corner, clear of its speaker and of a Glance's keep button.
- Sync no longer sends a page back to an older address when the page moved during its own push, such as a jump within a YouTube video.
- In Settings, the toggles in Privacy and Extensions no longer touch each other, a Link rule's Space dropdown is as tall as its pattern field, and the Spaces list removes a Space with the same X the Link rules use. It still asks before deleting.
