Engine 6.11.3-2

QtWebEngine 6.11.3 with Omaweb's patch series applied, for Linux x86_64 only. aarch64 stays on engine-6.11.3-1.

This is the engine Omaweb runs on, and it is a modified QtWebEngine. It installs into /usr/lib/omaweb and does not replace the distribution's qt6-webengine, so every other Qt application on the machine keeps the engine it had.

What changed since engine-6.11.3-1. The source and the thirty-one patches are the same. The x86_64 engine is now linked the way Chrome links its own targets (Omaweb's #886). Chromium links every target at ThinLTO's --lto-O0 except Chrome's own, which take --lto-O2. At O0 the link imports functions across files but neither inlines nor optimizes them. toolchain/clang.patch now gives QtWebEngineCore Chrome's level. With the same Omaweb binary, three runs of each suite on a Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS:

Suite 6.11.3-1 6.11.3-2 Change Against Chromium 140
Speedometer 3.1 20.06 22.51 +12.2% 0.730 → 0.819
JetStream 2.2 360.43 363.57 +0.9% 0.937 → 0.939
MotionMark 1.3.2 2695.96 3063.84 +13.6% 0.940 → 1.041

The Speedometer gain is outside both Omaweb's and Chromium's spread across runs. The JetStream change is within it. MotionMark's runs spread by up to 6.8%. No security fix comes with this release.

Each package names the Qt it was built against. The engine uses Qt's private API, so it runs on the Qt it was built against or a newer one. The package's qt6-base and qt6-declarative floor is that Qt, 6.12.0, and the module's version is pinned to 6.11.3.

Corresponding source. The base is Qt's released qtwebengine-everywhere-src-6.11.3.tar.xz, which carries the Chromium tree it builds. The changes are the thirty-one patches in patches/ of omaweb-qtwebengine-patches at dd5b0ab, each a single commit with its own reasoning, and toolchain/clang.patch, which changes how the engine is compiled and not what its code does. packaging/MODIFICATIONS.md in the package says the same and ships with it, alongside the LGPL-3.0 text and Chromium's own notice.

The signed copy lives in Omaweb's pacman repository, which is where a reader gets it. The package here is unsigned, and it is the artifact the publishing workflow signs. omaweb-qtwebengine-6.11.3-x86_64.tar.zst is the install tree it was made from.

What it was tested against.

  • It was built against Qt 6.12.0 from Omarchy's stable mirror, with clang 23, LLD, ThinLTO and Chrome's PGO profile, in the Arch container that built 6.11.3-1. Its tree matches 6.11.3-1's with this series applied. The new link-level hunk changed the engine library's link flags, so only that library was relinked. It depends on qt6-base>=6.12.0.
  • verify-x86_64.txt is this build's gate. It found a font to draw test pages in, V8 compiled with its write barriers, and the engine linked at --lto-O2, then passed 63 of 63, 10 of 10, 3 of 3, 9 of 9, 3 of 3, 7 of 7 and 13 of 13.
  • The container had no stock engine, so the stock comparison was skipped.
  • The package has not been installed in a fresh container with Omaweb's engine contract suite run against it.
