v0.12.0

Prerelease

Start page Scenes

The Start page has six Scenes now. Pick one from the grid of thumbnails in Settings, under Interface, or pick None to keep the sidebar's fill. The grid replaces the "Night road on the Start page" switch. If you had turned the road off, you start on None.

"CRT glass over the Scene" works with every Scene. Each Scene holds still under reduced motion, and a Private window shows a quieter version of the ordinary window's choice.

  • Night sky, after Navigator's throbber. A planet rises below the Omnibar under a still star field, and comets fall behind it. On commit, shooting stars fall thick until the page paints.
  • Game of Life. Conway's automaton at about eight generations a second, kept alive by random soups and glider guns. On commit it runs one generation a frame.
  • Vector terrain, after Battlezone. Wireframe mountains drift over a perspective grid under a crescent moon. On commit the grid rushes toward you.
  • Radar. A phosphor sweep turns every six seconds, and each open tab in the Space is a blip. On commit the sweep spins fast and the new page's blip brightens.
  • Hyperspace. Stars drift toward you over a faint nebula. On commit they stretch into streaks until the page paints.

Sidebar and tabs

  • The sidebar can sit on the right. Set Sidebar side in Settings, under Interface. The change is immediate, and the reveal edge, the floating controls, the resize handle and the find bar move with it.
  • Drag the empty space around the sidebar's rows to move the window, as you can with the navigation strip. Dragging a row still reorders it.
  • Primary+O and Primary+I jump back and forward through the tabs you used in a Space, up to 32 steps. In a Space at rest they jump between its Pinned tabs. The list lasts until you quit.

Faster and smoother

  • The window no longer waits on Hyprland at startup. In testing it came up in 0.9 seconds instead of 5.9. Settings is now built after the first frame, which helps too.
  • Filter lists download, compile and save off the interface thread. A refresh no longer stalls a Space switch or a sidebar slide.
  • The closed Shortcut sheet stopped laying itself out on every width change. That was a source of dropped frames in Space switches and sidebar slides.
  • The Omnibar ranks your tabs once per keystroke instead of up to three times.
  • The engine is omaweb-qtwebengine 6.11.2-5. It runs V8 with its write barriers on, and on x86_64 it is built with clang, LLD, ThinLTO and Chrome's PGO profile. On a Ryzen 7 PRO 7840HS it scores 0.773 of Chromium 140 on Speedometer 3.1 and 0.943 on JetStream 2.2. The previous engine scored 0.706 and 0.718.

Fixes

  • With animations off in Hyprland 0.56, the browser reduces its motion. It used to miss the setting.
  • Buttons and toggles from the Omarchy kit follow the desktop's reduced-motion setting, like the rest of the chrome.
