v0.19.0

Prerelease

Breaking changes

  • The floating navigation strip is gone. With the sidebar hidden, nothing is drawn over the page. To bring a hidden sidebar back, peek at its edge of the window or use its keys, as before.
  • The Floating controls setting is gone with the strip. Settings has no row for it. A floating-controls value left in settings.json is ignored, and Settings lists it with the other keys it does not know. Sync no longer carries the setting, and a Sync repository that holds it loses that file on the next sync.

Link rules

  • A Link rule sends a link from another app to the Space it names, or to a Private window. It applies to links handed over through D-Bus Open and to the launch address. It never applies to a link clicked in a page or to an Agent's open.
  • Patterns are a host, optionally after *., then optionally a path prefix ending in *. Examples are *.acme.com, which also matches acme.com, and github.com/acme/*. Only http and https links match. The first rule that matches wins.
  • A routed link opens as a new tab in its Space and switches there, which shows the Space notice. The window it opened in comes forward. A rule for Private window uses the Private window shown most recently, or opens one when none is open.
  • A rule that names a Space you do not have, or an Agent Space, opens the link where it would have gone and shows a page notice saying so.
  • Edit the rules in Settings under Spaces, Links from other apps. Each row has a pattern field, a Space picker that also offers Private window, a drag handle and a remove button. A pattern that does not parse and a Space that does not exist are both marked on their row.
  • Rules are stored as link-rules in settings.json. A hand edit applies without a restart, and Sync carries them.
  • Renaming a Space rewrites its rules. Deleting a Space names its rules in the confirmation and deletes them with it.
  • Site information has a new row that reads "<site> opens in" with a picker of your Spaces, Private window and The Space on show. It shows and edits the first Link rule that takes the page, whatever its pattern. When no rule takes the page, choosing a Space or Private window adds a whole-site rule for the registrable domain, such as *.acme.com on app.acme.com. Choosing The Space on show removes the rule. The row names the rule's pattern when that rule is narrower than the whole site.
  • The row is absent in a Private window, in an Agent Space, on Omaweb's own pages, and for an address with no registrable domain, such as an IP address or localhost.

Sidebar layout

  • The sidebar footer holds only the Space row. It is centred while every Space fits. When they do not fit, it fills the width with the +N count at its end. At 220 px, the row shows as many Spaces with every mark up as with none. A Private window centres its mask.
  • Settings, as the gear or the Sync avatar with its dot, is now the first item in the navigation row, before collapse and search.
  • The Settings dot follows one rule on both faces: urgent while Settings needs attention or Sync has an error, accent while Sync runs, and none otherwise. A paused Sync avatar no longer carries a muted dot.
  • The extension mark sits at the right end of the address box while the Space hosts an extension. The extension menu and popup unfold from it.
  • The Status island is a capsule centred above the Space row. It holds a running Problem recording, the Download mark and the Release mark, each only while it applies, and is absent while none does. One mark shows a short live label, such as "2 downloads · 40%" or "Recording · 3 min left". Several marks show as icons. Under reduced motion, the island changes in one step.
  • Pressing the Download mark opens the island upward into the running downloads, with All downloads to open the downloads section in Settings. Pressing the Release mark opens it on the release and what to run, with Release notes to open them in a new tab. Press the same mark again or Escape to close it. The recording's mark still ends the recording and opens the report.
  • The hover detail over the Download mark is gone.

Glance navigation

  • A Glance has its own back, forward and reload buttons, under close and open as tab in the column beside the panel's top corner. The column is now bare buttons with no pill behind them.
  • While a Glance is open, back, forward, reload and reload bypassing the cache act on the Glance's page. This applies from keys, the command scope and the buttons, in the main window and in a Tab window. The tab underneath is left alone. Back or forward with no history that way does nothing.
  • Alt+K moves the keyboard from the Glance's page into the column, where the Sidebar cursor marks the button that holds it. Tab, Shift+Tab and the arrow keys walk the buttons that can be pressed. Return or Space presses one. Alt+J or Escape returns to the page, and Escape from the page still closes the Glance.
  • Holding Primary shows Key labels beside the buttons. Open as tab shows ⇧ ↵.

Diagnostic overrides

  • omaweb --diagnose <name>=<value> starts the browser with a Diagnostic override for that run only. Repeat the flag for more than one. The overrides are:
    • report-chrome=<major> sets the Chrome version in the user agent and client hints.
    • brands=<list> replaces the brand list, comma separated, such as adding Google Chrome.
    • language=<tag> sets Accept-Language and navigator.languages.
  • Overrides apply to every Engine profile, including Private windows. They are held in memory only. They are not written to settings.json, the session store or Sync.
  • A 24 px strip across the top of every window names the run's overrides. This covers the main and Private windows, Tab windows and Auxiliary windows. It has no close button.
  • A Problem report taken during the run lists the overrides first.
  • An unknown name, a malformed value or an override given twice refuses to start and lists the valid overrides. If a browser is already running, the command refuses and asks you to quit it first.

Fixes

  • A Glance's page now gets the keyboard when the Glance opens.
