v0.7.1

Prerelease

Breaking changes

  • The pacman repository moved to release assets, so its address changed. In the [omaweb] section of /etc/pacman.conf, replace the Server line with:

    Server = https://github.com/villekivela/omaweb/releases/download/repo-$arch

Then run sudo pacman -Syu. The same key signs the packages, so you import nothing again. The old address still serves 0.6.0, but it gets no more upgrades. The move was needed because the engine package is 101.13 MB, and GitHub refuses a pushed file over 100 MB.

Omaweb's own engine

  • Omaweb runs on its own build of QtWebEngine 6.11.2. pacman installs it as omaweb-qtwebengine under /usr/lib/omaweb, beside the system Qt. Nothing else on your machine changes.
  • pacman -S omaweb brings both packages out of the one repository.
  • Engine security updates come from Omaweb, not from your distribution. Omaweb commits to an engine release within two days of a Qt release.
  • Pages read light or dark from Omaweb's theme instead of the desktop's. On a plain Linux session they used to report light, however dark the browser was.

Known extensions

  • Bitwarden and 1Password run as Known extensions. Turn one on in Settings, under Known extensions. The section names each one's publisher, its licence and what it reaches.
  • Turning one on downloads its package from clients2.google.com. Omaweb accepts the package only if the publisher's key, pinned in the build, signed it. Settings says what the download tells Google before you ask for it.
  • Once a day, the first window you open asks whether a newer version is out. It downloads the package only when the version differs.
  • Every Space loads the extensions you turn on. A Private window loads none, and its Settings shows a notice in place of the switches.
  • The extensions mark in the sidebar opens a column of the enabled extensions' icons. Pick one to open its popup as a Glance, sized to the popup. The "Show the extensions" command opens the same list.
  • Both extensions fill login forms. 1Password fills through its desktop application, and Bitwarden's inline menu opens in the field. An extension's notifications reach the desktop.

Fixes

  • The chrome's scrollbars hide while the content fits. In the sidebar's tab list and in Settings, the bar runs in the padding, so the thumb no longer covers the end of each row.
  • The Release check skips tags with no version in them, such as repo-x86_64 and engine-6.11.2. It took one of those for the newest release, so it never told you about a new version.

v0.7.0 was tagged but published nothing. Both package jobs failed while trusting the engine's repository. v0.7.1 is the first release with everything above.
