v0.18.0
Prerelease
Start page
- Telemetry is a seventh Scene: a CRT dashboard of live readings around the resting Omnibar. It charts CPU and network, shows gauges over the Omnibar and a row of figures under it, and has sections for memory and swap, power, today's pages and Omaweb's memory per Space.
- Every Telemetry reading is local. Omaweb reads
/procand/sysonly while Telemetry is the chosen Scene, and keeps five minutes of readings in memory. - Telemetry takes counts of refused requests from Content blocking for each Space, and counts today's pages from History.
- A Private window's Telemetry shows only that window's own refusals and downloads, and nothing from History or other Spaces.
- The Omnibar stays the only thing on the page that takes focus.
- Settings offers Telemetry's text size, Large (22/32, the default) or Small (18/26), and a switch for each module. On a small page area, whole blocks drop out in a fixed order.
- The CRT glass now draws a raster Scene with a beam, one line to each of the Scene's rows, under an aperture grille. It used to lay a flat dark line every 3 logical pixels.
- Every Scene gets halation through the CRT glass.
- The radar, vector terrain and hyperspace draw as vector screens. They have no scanlines or mask, and leave a phosphor trail while they move. Under reduced motion there is no trail.
- Every Scene is graded like a sunset. Its bright parts take a second hue, and more of them take it lower in the frame. The hue is the theme's syntax keyword colour. Where that colour is within 30 degrees of the accent or nearly grey, Omaweb turns the accent's hue half way round instead.
- The grade follows a live theme change and applies with the CRT glass off too. A Private window's Scene is not graded.
- The night road's centre line, roadside and shooting star are now painted as the website paints them. Distant dashes fade instead of popping, and the shooting star is a streak, not a staircase.
- The road's CRT glass now does the website's maths in the website's order, and its clock follows the window's frames instead of a 33 ms timer.
Sidebar
- The address trigger is now a quiet line. It shows the page's host and port with no scheme,
www., path, query or fragment. A page with no host shows the last part of its path, or its scheme. - The address trigger and the Pinned tabs lose their borders and sit on one fill: the theme's text at 7%, or 11% under the pointer.
- The address trigger keeps its focus border while it holds the keyboard.
- One 8 px gap separates the navigation row, the address trigger, each Pinned tab and the tab list.
- The lock before the host is now the size of a tab favicon, 16 px instead of 11 px.
- The address trigger no longer shows the Refusal tally. It shows the Site information button and the host only. The tally and its list of refused requests are still in Site information.
- On a secure page the Site information button shows the tune glyph. Plain HTTP still shows
lock_open, and a certificate error still showswarning. - A tab row's favicon now stands 4 px in from the address trigger's left edge. The address trigger and the Pinned tabs share that edge. Titles keep their place.
- An Agent tab's page is no longer framed. Its sidebar row carries the state instead: a stripe in the Agent accent, and the Agent's name and last act under the title.
- Hovering an Agent tab's row shows Stop just before Close. Stop closes the Agent's whole connection, as if the Agent had quit, and a temporary Agent Space it made goes with it.
- Stop revokes nothing. Allow agents and Space grants stay as they are, and the Agent can connect again at once.
- An Auxiliary window an Agent drives has a slim bar over its page with the Agent's name, its last act and Stop.
Scrolling and keyboard navigation
- A touchpad flick in a page now glides on after your fingers lift, then slows to a stop as it does in GTK 4. The speed is measured over the last 150 ms before the lift and decays as
exp(-4 t). - The glide follows whatever your fingers were scrolling, a nested scroller included. A mouse wheel scrolls as before.
- The glide stops when you rest your fingers on the touchpad, scroll again, click, press a key, switch tabs or Spaces, or a page loads.
- Link hints appear only on elements you can click where they stand. A modal dialog, a dropdown or a sticky header now removes the hints under it.
- Disabled, read-only and
aria-disabledcontrols get no hint, and neither do elements with only atabindex. - Hint plates sit above modal dialogs, at the top left of the element's first visible line.
- Link hints choose their targets by Vimium's rules. These include clickable roles such as
tab,menuitem,checkboxandradio, plusonclick,contenteditable, labels,detailsand open shadow roots. YouTube's channel tabs are now hinted. - A hint on a
detailselement toggles it open. Primary+Shift+Cand Copy address now show an "Address copied" notice for 3 s. A tab with no page still copies nothing and shows nothing.
Fixes
- A dialog opened while a page from the Start page was still painting no longer loses the keyboard to that page.
- The Developer tools Elements context menu, the Styles pane's layer headers and the Network request table now take the theme's surfaces instead of its muted colour. Their dividers use Omaweb's own hairline.
- The hover fill on Developer tools toolbar buttons no longer covers the element picker's glyph.
